Parents Angry Over CCTV In School Washroom

SkyNews © Sky News 2010

Outraged parents have hit out at a school in Birmingham after pupils discovered CCTV cameras in the school’s toilets.

Youngsters at Grace Academy in Chelmsley Wood claim they returned from half-term to find staff had installed the cameras without notifying them or their parents.

Some parents are furious at what they say is a “total invasion of privacy” and claim some pupils are so anxious about being watched they are refusing to use the facilities.

One mother whose teenage daughter attends the school is concerned the footage could fall into the wrong hands.

She told the Sunday Mercury: “She came home from school and told me security cameras had been installed in the girl’s toilets but we didn’t know anything about it.

You would expect the school to have consulted parents first yet we received no information and no letters have been sent home explaining this decision.

Grace Academy claims the cameras only cover the sink areas and have not yet been activated.

School principal Terry Wales told Sky News: “It’s to safeguard our youngsters, many schools are using cameras now.

We had a parents’ forum last night, we explained the arrangements and the parents were satisfied.

We’ve found that when it comes to health and safety, children want to feel secure.

But privacy campaigners warned about the psychological effects of the feeling of being watched, even if cameras are not switched on.

Dylan Sharpe from Big Brother Watch told Sky News: “Children are entitled to privacy like anyone else.

We’re raising a generation of children accustomed to being constantly watched and monitored, whether cameras are switched on or not.

Grace Academy already has 26 CCTV cameras watching other parts of the school.

The incident is the latest row to erupt between schools and parents who are concerned about safeguarding their children’s privacy.

Last year police were called to a school in Salford after parents were horrified to discover children had been filmed changing into their PE kit.

Although the footage was not misused, police seized the film after negotiating with the school.

In 2007 it was revealed schools had fingerprinted thousands of primary school children without their parent’s consent.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families later ruled that if schools want to obtain and store biometric data from children, consent is not required from parents.

Parents Lose Custody Because of Beliefs

Racism is not right, but more often than not you will find someone you know and care about harbours some form of race-related concerns. The Jewish and Palestinians, the blacks and the whites, the idiots and dumbasses. Yes, racism can go as far as war so it’s not a good thing, but like I said,  you know someone who has some race-related issues.  So, if the spectrum of racism is so broad then it stands to reason that merely being racist is no immediate cause of concern. That black friend of yours doesn’t really like white people as much as he likes black people, but he isn’t going to kill any whites. Or, to be fair, that white friend of yours doesn’t like all Arabs, but he isn’t going to kill or beat any Arabs.

That line of thinking is exactly what perpetuates racism. We need a logical approach to this instead of an emotional one. Case in point -the video above. The parents are racist and as a result their children have parroted the parents at school. That led to the Province taking the children away from them. So now we have the Province playing moral judge and jury on racism, which is the same as the province itself being racist. The parents are discriminating against a group of people and now so is the province.

If you’re going to do that then where is the line drawn? This is the thought police. This is 1984. In Canada we have the Charter of Rights and Freedoms as well as a Constitution. You should read these documents because what Canada has done to these parents is against it’s own laws of the land. If they can do it to one group, then they certainly can do it to any other group. Need I point to the Natives?

Stand up Canada!

How You Can Avoid Fluoride, and Help to Ban it in Your Water

You can protect yourself from fluoride by using only non-fluoride toothpaste and not receiving fluoride treatments from your dentist. To remove fluoride from your drinking water, you must use a reverse osmosis filter. Be sure that you’re filtering not only the water that you drink, but also the water you use to wash vegetables, make ice cubes, and cook with.

If you’re wondering how to keep your teeth healthy, remember that fluoride was never the answer in the first place. Eating right and avoiding processed foods (along with regular cleanings with your natural dentist) will ensure that your teeth stay healthy naturally.

Finally, if you’d like to voice your opinion about ending water fluoridation, the Fluoride Action Network has an online petition that you can sign to call for a Congressional Hearing.

Remember, every voice makes a difference, so please feel free to forward this message to all of your interested friends and family members.

Together, we have the power to prompt some real changes for the good of your health, and the health of future generations!

600 Physicians, Dentists, Scientists and Environmentalists Call for an End to Fluoridation

A statement asking Congress to end water fluoridation in the United States has been released by the Fluoride Action Network (FAN). Over 600 professionals, including a Nobel Prize winner, officers in the Union that represents Environmental Protection Agency professionals, and members of the National Research Council panel on fluoride’s toxicology, have signed the statement.

The report urges Congressional members to “recognize that fluoridation is outdated, has serious risks that far outweigh any minor benefits, violates sound medical ethics, and denies freedom of choice.” Read the rest of this entry »

Ricky Gervais: Sterilize Irresponsible People Before They Reproduce

Sterilise irresponsible people before they have children, says Ricky Gervais

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER
1st February 2010

He’s not known for his sensitive approach on delicate issues.

But even Ricky Gervais may have overstepped the mark this time, with his irreverent comments on the subject of over-population.

The comedian – who does not have children – said ‘irresponsible’ parents should be sterilized.

Gervais, 48, said there were ‘too many unwanted children, too many people who are poor and struggling.’

He added: ‘If they all had a good quality of life, no one would complain. What there is, is too many useless people. Too many people who shouldn’t have children.

Asked whether there should be a limitation then, he told the Sunday Times: ‘Yes, based on… stupid, fat faces. If there’s a woman in leggings, eating chips with a fag in her mouth, sterilize her.

It was suggested that Gervais, who grew up on a council estate in Reading, was calling for ‘chavs’ to be sterilized.

But he insisted his views were not based purely on class.

I described an irresponsible parent. Chavs could be included in irresponsible though.

He says he and his girlfriend of 27 years, Jane Fallon, 48, had discussed having children but decided against starting a family.

Too much hassle,’ he said.
